Mantua Maker 1880's Bustle Pattern
1880s Bustle Pattern #1880-4
General sized bustle in four styles with an individualized waistband
After disappearing for three years, the bustle reappeared in 1883. Between 1884 and 1887 the Victorian bustle reached its greatest proportions. Larger but more narrow than the 1870s bustle, it projected out and at such an angle that detractors claimed that a tea tray could rest upon it. Still, it was critical to make fashionable dresses hang properly.
This pattern offers options for two full-length bustles appropriate for years 1883-1886 and two options in a shorter style of bustle common in years 1887-1889.
Each bustle features removable steels and an optional detachable flounce.
Pattern includes 4 pages of instructions with historical tips and 2 pattern sheets. It is printed on bond paper, and enclosed in a white paper envelope.
This is a one-size-fits-all pattern with a sized waist band.
